Each choreographer, when they’re creating, has their own method of approaching the different phases of research,
testing, and rehearsals of the choreographic material such as the mise-en-scene. How will he generate the raw material? Will he start from a theme, some music, scenography or movement? Will the said movement be created
by the choreographer then learned by the dancers, or will he guide them through composition or improvisation
in a personal research? Will he stick to his intentions and stay on track whatever happens, or will he dare
to venture out – or even lose himself – in a sudden proposition?
We’d like to speak about the real-life adventure in play; of our experience in this surprising period; of these moments, small states of grace, where a sensation of harmony can invade us all. Speaking also of conflicts which weaken positions, of challenges which reveal our unknown and magnificent places. Perhaps sharing laughter and derisory moments
as well as those where we’re stopped short, confronted by our fears and limits, always with the question hanging
in suspense: Give in or go for it? La Répétition tackles all of these questions, the productions of a choreographic project,
the personal journey of everyone involved: dancer, choreographer, costume maker, lighting technician…
the path that a whole team traces around the act of creation.
Will the show being rehearsed in front of us really exist one day, or is it already a show in itself ?
