BEAU GESTE was created in 1981 by seven dancers
from
the Centre
National de Danse Contemporaine
(National Centre
of Contemporary Dance),
headed by
the American
choreographer Alwin NIKOLAÏS.
The company moved to alternative premises close to Rouen
where they presented some performances in collaboration
with other artists (musicians, dancers, visual artists).
At the same time they created and toured different shows
(Désir-Désir, Strada Fox, Princes de Paris). In 1985 BEAU GESTE joined forces with the Company LOLITA for the conception of
the revue show Zoopsie Comedi which, from its creation in 1986,
received great success in France and abroad.
BEAU GESTE then alternated individual and collective pieces,
each dancer being successively dancer or choreographer (Belles
de Nuit, Follis, Le Cabinet des curiosités). In 1991 the company
was restructured as a trio (Christine ERBE, Philippe PRIASSO),
with the artistic direction entrusted to Dominique BOIVIN.
BEAU GESTE then created different group pieces
with
Carmen, La Belle Etoile cabaret ‘pataphysique, Petites
Histoires au-dessus du ciel, Conte sur Moi,
Miniatures de l’émoi.

Certain shows, due to the number of performances (more than 300)
at a national and international level, have become emblematic
of the Beau Geste style : Mécaniques, spectacle pédagogique,
La Danse une histoire à ma façon and Transports Exceptionnels continue their journey across the world after having been performed
in more than 40 countries.
Pursuing this approach – putting the emphasis on each dancer’s unique personality and movement – BEAU GESTE ventures
into multiple performance styles: solos, cabarets, variety shows, dance conferences… all opportunities to affirm a taste
for diversity, distance and humour.
